Award-winning food deserves unrivalled wines. Our wine cellar was created by our owner Charles’ ancestors for their own pleasure and enjoyment. Today, under the care of Nico, it continues to grow and develop, bringing oenological joy to our guests from far and wide.

We are quietly proud to offer one of the UK’s very best wine lists. We have been awarded three Stars in the ‘World of Fine Wine’ Awards, placing Allium in Europe’s top 50 restaurants for wine and we won the 2023 AA Wine Award, England and Overall.  We have an unbridled passion for the genuine love of the art of wine.

Our wine lists include references for Bordeaux dating back to 1893, some of the oldest in existence. As well as fine and rare bottles, our cellars are home to small, unknown producers producing world class wines – in the words of Nico “The best wine lists are a perfect balance of fine, rare and wonderful, and honest, humble wine – all of which deliver personality and something special for guests to enjoy.”

Large format bottles are some of Nico’s favourites to open – after all, there is nothing better than sharing an even larger bottle with friends. In the words of Winston Churchill – ‘A magnum is the perfect size for two to share – as long as only one is drinking!

Burgundy is really the wine equivalent of ‘an iron fist in a velvet glove’, what it lacks in structure and power, it makes up for, unequivocally, in finesse, complexity and pure enjoyment. Our cellars are home to some of the greatest wines ever produced – including Domaine de la Romanee Conti, Madame Leroy, Comte Ligier Belair and more. Our owner Charles Lowther’s love of Burgundy is truly a passion to behold, and with his support, Askham Hall has become a home to wine lovers UK-wide.
