Awarded a Michelin Star, Allium offers one of Cumbria’s most celebrated dining experiences. Our ever-changing six-course tasting menu showcases the finest seasonal ingredients from the Lowther Estate, our kitchen gardens and the surrounding countryside, thoughtfully prepared by Richard Swale and his team.
We are delighted to welcome both residents and non-residents to Allium. Guests staying at our sister properties, The Queen’s Head in Askham and George and Dragon in Clifton, are also warmly invited to dine with us during their stay.

Allium is open Tuesday to Saturday, from 6.45pm until 11pm and we take bookings between 6.45pm and 8pm.
We offer a six course Michelin-starred Tasting Menu which costs £140 per person* and you have the option to add paired wines which costs £110 per person.
Celebrating with Friends and Family
Planning a special occasion? From May to July, parties of six or more can enjoy our Michelin-starred tasting menu for £100 per person, together with a complimentary bottle of Champagne to begin the evening.
Tables are limited, so we recommend booking early. For groups of up to six guests, reservations can be made online using the booking calendar below. For groups of seven or more, or to enquire about private dining, please email [email protected].
Dietary Requirements
Our tasting menu celebrates seasonal produce and the style of cooking for which Allium is known. Unfortunately, we are unable to cater for vegan, dairy-free or severe lactose-free diets, as these requirements are not compatible with the nature of our menu.
If you have any other dietary requirements or allergies, please let us know when making your reservation. Our team will always do their very best to accommodate you wherever possible.

Please note that credit card details are required to secure your booking. Payment is not taken at the time of booking, however in the event of a cancellation or a no show a payment will be deducted from your card as follows: 50% charge for a cancellation within 48 hours, 100% for a cancellation within 24 hours or a no show. For cancellations made more than 48 hours prior to your reservation then no charge applies.
Please also note that dogs are not permitted in the restaurant
