Exciting things are starting to happen here at Askham Hall, first things first, we have joined the online world of blogging!!! Or better known as the “blogosphere”. For any readers out there who don’t know who we are, let me introduce ourselves…
Opening back in spring 2014, we are a majestic, luxurious Grade I listed manor house dating back to the late 1200’s. With stunning Grade II gardens and a stylishly converted Bank Barn full of character, we have plenty to offer here. Not only do we have a grand hotel with beautiful gardens, we have a cafe, exquisite fine – dining restaurant and an outdoor heated swimming pool, we are also the perfect country wedding venue.
Following a sensational season of weddings in 2015 we can only hope that 2016 will be just as extraordinary. With already two fabulous winter weddings under our belt this year, it is safe to say that “wedding season” will soon be upon us and to be totally honest…we could not be more excited!
With so many different options, Askham Hall really is the perfect place to get married and we cannot wait for all the weddings we have this year, to have helped to make someone’s big day special is just incredible.
Our charming Bank Barn has been sympathetically converted into a first class party venue with wedding menu’s devised by top chef Steven Doherty, the first British chef to head up a 3 Michelin star restaurant. We have kept the original oak beams and bare stone walls, together with contemporary lighting and large glass windows to create a unique and rustic styled venue for the perfect country wedding.
In charge of our exquisite restaurant is Richard Swale. Richard has worked in some of the finest restaurants including NOMA and Maison du Marc Verat. Askham Hall is Richard’s first restaurant where he really is finding his own style and gaining a great reputation as one of the most exciting new chefs in the North of England!
Using the finest homegrown products from our own Kitchen Garden with locally sourced ingredients and meat from the Lowther estate, Richard’s dishes really are incredible. Speaking from personal experience, Richard’s food complemented with Nico’s wines (our award winning in house sommelier) is one tastebud tantalizing dining experience like no other. One that you would not want to miss!
To top it all off, Richard has brought along with him his very own rare breed chickens!
Originally built as a defensive Pele tower, Askham Hall has evolved from a 16th Century Elizabethan mansion to the former family home of the 7th Earl of Lonsdale then on to an amazing country hotel and wedding venue. It is still to this day owned by the family, therefore the house is filled with family trinkets and history giving you a real home from home experience.
Now with 15 uniquely furnished double bedrooms, we have even more available for our guests. As a former family home all our bedrooms vary in style and size within keeping to the theme of hotel.
