In August we hosted the lovely Charlotte and Tom’s summer wedding at Askham Hall. All weddings are special of course, however there was something particularly unique about this one, in that they only had 8 weeks to plan their big day, with a holiday in between! And it certainly wasn’t a small wedding either! Due to a last minute cancellation, Charlotte and Tom snapped up our last minute offer for their bank holiday weekend wedding. Considering the average wedding takes nearly two years to plan, we asked them how they managed to pull it all together at such short notice…

– Where are you from and how did you hear about Askham Hall?
I am from Appleby, Cumbria and Tom is from Longton, just outside of Preston. We heard about Askham Hall through friends and family and it was the first place we viewed after we got engaged.
– How and when did you get engaged?
We got engaged in Dubai June 2016. Tom had the ring handmade in Dubai and he proposed at a restaurant in Atlantis The Palm, one of our favourite places where we have made some amazing memories.
– What was it about Askham Hall that made you book here (apart from the major discount!)?
When we first viewed Askham Hall we brought my little brother Sam for a treasure hunt around the gardens and we all absolutely fell in love with it. We loved the rustic style of the wedding barn and the idea of having the Hall for the whole weekend with our closest friends and family. We looked at lots of other venues in Cumbria & Cheshire but nothing else compared. We were delighted when the last minute opportunity came up and knew that it was meant to be.
– How did you manage to organise suppliers i.e. entertainment, flowers, cake in such a short space of time?
Shortly after we got engaged we had been looking on Pinterest and going to wedding fairs to get an idea of colour schemes & themes. We had our heart set on a string quartet and were lucky to find one playing in the area on the same day! We organised our flowers through Greenwheat Flower & Fika, highly recommended by friends and family and they were stunning, completely exceeding our expectations. Instead of a traditional 3 tier wedding cake we decided on a desert table. We sourced brownies & macaroons from local suppliers, a beautiful cake from Charlotte Moody & lots of boxes of Krispy Kreme donuts! We also arranged a lot of decor ourselves, with our Maid of Honour doing all the beautiful calligraphy.
– How did you get all your guests together in so little time?
With only 8 weeks to plan and organise the wedding we had to speed up the RSVP process. Our friend Daniel made us an amazing wedding website where guests RSVP’d and completed their menu choices simultaneously. I think we received around 50 responses in 48 hours!
– How did you feel to have your wedding here at Askham Hall?
It was a dream come true.
– What was the best part of your day?
I don’t think we could pinpoint a moment because the whole weekend was so magical. The staff at Askham were incredible, everything ran so impeccably from start to finish. From the photos and drinks reception in front of the house to the evening BBQ on the Friday with all our close family and friends we just loved the different aspects of the weekend which safe to say went too quickly!
– Where are you going on honeymoon?
We only got back from Italy 3 days prior to the wedding so we are hoping to go on our Honeymoon next year, and are looking into the Maldives.
– Do you have any advice for future couples about how to plan a wedding in a short period of time?
Be decisive, follow your heart and prioritise what’s most important to you as a couple.
– Would you do it again?
Also We cannot Thank you enough for everything you did for us. You were absolutely amazing from the start of the planning process until the end of the weekend and we loved every second!
