Allium at Askham Hall has been confirmed as the winner of a prestigious award by American lifestyle magazine and website Wine Spectator.
The annual Wine Spectator Restaurant Awards celebrate the best of dining destinations worldwide. All the 2018 winners are highlighted as sharing a dedication to wine and are judged as restaurants whose wine lists “offer interesting selections, are appropriate to their cuisine and appeal to a wide range of wine lovers”.
The recently revamped and re-named Allium features on the list for the first time, scooping a ‘Best of Excellent’ award.
Allium’s wine offering comes under the watchful eye of Askham Hall’s ‘Maître de Maison’ Front of House Manager, Nicolas (Nico) Chièze.
Nico has a long career as a sommelier and has worked in Michelin-starred restaurants in both France and England. He is assisted by Assistant Sommelier Richard Bracken.
Askham Hall also runs regular wine evenings and special events, such as the ‘Le Beaujolais Nouveau est arrivée’ in November, which is an ancient French tradition marking the release of grapes harvested in the famous Beaujolais region.

Wine is such an important part of many people’s dining experience and it is great to be recognised for having a selection of more than 500 wines from France and Spain, which can be paired to complement individual dishes.”
